In 1977, Earthtrust purchased and outfitted a 176-foot WWII
sub-chaser for an expedition to confront and document Soviet whale-kills
north of Hawaii; the first fully-owned anti-whaling ship in the
world. The successful and dramatic expedition, conducted in cooperation
with Greenpeace Foundation, encountered and boarded a Soviet whaling
fleet 1200 miles north of Hawaii, and was the subject of an ABC
television documentary aired internationally.
